Describe your work to a 13 year old
The most important part of your application is the one sentence description of your work that will help guide who gets in. So have a think how you would describe your work to a 13 year old! Some solid tips:
The ability and range of students taking part will vary, so it’s best if you use language that’s more understandable:

Use imaginative language to describe your work, to grab the students’ attention by giving a real sense of what your work involves.
Don’t say what type of researcher you are, instead say what you do at work, and what your job involves.
Show your one sentence description to someone else — not someone working in your field!
